- Glass bottle
- clapper, e.g. teaspoon
Instructions:
Whistle:
Blow into the neck of the bottle until a sound is produced.
Fill different amounts of water into the bottle and listen to how the sound changes.
Bell:
Tap the bottle with the clapper to make a sound.
Again, fill more water into the bottle and pay attention to the change in the sound.
Observation:
Whistle:
Blowing into the bottle produces a sound like a whistle.
The higher the water level, the higher the tone.
Bell:
Tapping the bottle with a spoon also produces a tone. This time, however, the pitch decreases as the water level increases.
