    • Drinking straw (as thick as possible)\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Thin, smooth cord \/ tear-resistant thread \/ thread (2-5 meters) <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Adhesive tape\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Scissors\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Clothespin\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Setup:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n
        \n
      • Inflate the balloon fully\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Hold it closed with your fingers and turn in the outlet to prevent air from escaping\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Close the outlet with a clothespin\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Cut off a piece of straw about 5-10 cm long.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Attach it to the longitudinal balloon with plenty of tape so that the outlet is <\/span>in the same direction<\/span><\/b>!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Thread the string through the straw\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

          • The air flows noisily out of the outlet and the balloon whizzes along the string. In doing so, it reaches a remarkable speed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Even without a string, the launch of a balloon rocket is a sensible freehand attempt.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
            • An elongated balloon is particularly suitable.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Explication:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

              • The taut skin of the balloon increases the pressure inside, so that the pressure difference at the outlet pushes air out of the balloon and accelerates in the process. <\/span><\/li>\n
              • According to <\/span>Newton’s third law<\/span><\/b>, this accelerating force generates an opposite, equal force on the balloon, which accelerates it in the opposite direction. <\/span><\/li>\n
              • The balloon experiences a <\/span>recoil<\/span><\/b>. A <\/span>rocket<\/span><\/b>, a jet engine or the locomotion of a jellyfish works on the same principle.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
